Asif is a Mauritian barrister who has been practising at the Chambers of Sir Hamid Moollan KC since September 2011. His practice spans from criminal, civil, commercial/corporate, employment, family and property law, with extensive experience in both litigation and advisory work.

 Asif regularly appears before all courts and tribunals in Mauritius. Over the years, he has conducted and assisted in numerous complex matters, including high profile criminal cases, fraud trials, assizes matters, and Privy Council appeals. He has also acted as secretary to arbitrators in commercial arbitration disputes.

He is specialised and has successfully handled a wide range of personal injury, road accident, and civil litigation cases, from enquiry stage through to full trial.

His commercial practice includes advising on management agreements, investment agreements, mergers and acquisitions, shareholders’ agreements, corporate transactions, and lease agreements. He regularly leads discussions on transactional matters and assists companies with the drafting and vetting of commercial contracts.

Asif acts as legal adviser to a hotel group, one of the largest carton manufacturers in Mauritius, and is regularly solicited for advice by one of the major insurance companies on the island. His work also includes chairing disciplinary hearings for various companies.

 Asif formed part as a member of the Mauritius Young Bar Committee (2016–2017).

Education

Asif completed his LLB (Hons) at the University of Birmingham, UK, graduating in 2009. He then undertook the Bar Vocational Course at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, obtaining his Postgraduate Diploma in 2010.

He was called to the Bar of England and Wales in July 2010 (Middle Temple) and subsequently called to the Mauritian Bar in September 2011. He also holds a Diplôme d’Université en Droit Civil Mauricien from the Université de La Réunion.

His training includes accreditation as a Civil and Commercial Mediator from ADR Group London, where he completed courses in negotiation, reality testing, exploration of facts, and mediation procedures.
