Called to the Bar in 1992, Irshad began his career in private practice before serving the State as a Law Officer and subsequently as member of the Judiciary. As Presiding Magistrate of the District Court of Port-Louis, he helped to set up the Bail and Remand Court. His corporate acumen was further sharpened as the Legal and Compliance Officer for BAI (Mtius) Ltd, where he oversaw cross-border transactions, commercial contracts, and regulatory frameworks.

An academic at heart, he has shared his deep knowledge as a Lecturer in Labour Law at the University of Mauritius and as an instructor at the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) Tax School. He holds an LLB (Hons) from the University of Mauritius, ranked 4th in the Council of Legal Education Bar Exams, and completed advanced judicial training at the prestigious École de la Magistrature in Paris. He was also the chairperson of the Muslim Family Council from 2019 to 2023 and is currently the Chairperson of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU)

Irshad is a highly distinguished Barrister with over three decades of exceptional experience spanning the judiciary, state legal services, and specialized tax adjudication. Irshad had  a prominent 21 year tenure as the Chairperson of the Assessment Review Committee (2003–2024). He has had the opportunity to preside over the first Transfer Pricing case, which was also one of the biggest claims made by the MRA,  before the Assessment Review Committee.  He returned to private practice in July 2024, bringing unparalleled expertise in revenue law, commercial dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance to the chambers.
