Rishi practises in commercial litigation, company law, financial and regulatory disputes, tax matters, shareholder litigation and public law, drawing on his extensive financial background and detailed understanding of corporate transactions, financial institutions, valuation, governance, accounting and complex investment structures. ‍ ‍

Prior to entering legal practice, Rishi spent almost two decades as an M&A Investment Banker across London, New York, Sydney and Mauritius. He held several senior positions within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at BofA Merrill Lynch and Barclays Capital, where he ultimately served as Director in their London office. He formed part of the team advising the UKFI set up by the UK Government to manage HM Treasury’s holdings in the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group and Northern Rock, and also advised the Dutch Ministry of Finance to manage the process of nationalising and subsequent privatisation of ABN Amro, SNS Reaal and ASR. He also served as the Head of Financial Modelling and Valuation at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).‍ ‍

Notable transactions on which he advised include the demutualisation and IPO of Standard Life (European IPO of 2006 Award, IFR), the IPO of Admiral insurance (European IPO of 2004, IFR), the sale of ABSA to Barclays, the merger of F&C and ISIS asset management, Rabobank’s sale of Robeco to ORIX, Aviva’s sell-down in Delta Lloyd, CBA’s sale of St Andrews Insurance to Bank of Queensland and its acquisition of Vietnam International Bank (VIB).  In Mauritius, he was the sole advisor to CIM Group on its acquisition of Mauritian Eagle Leasing Company Ltd (MELCO) from the IBL Group and co-advised CIM on the spin-off and listing of Lavastone on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.  ‍ ‍

Alongside his practice, Rishi remains active in educational and public-interest initiatives relating to children’s rights, ethics and civic engagement. He is the founder and Chairman of Dukesbridge, the largest group of English-medium international schools in Mauritius.‍ ‍

Education

Rishi was a State of Mauritius Laureate. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) in 2003 and an Executive Management programme from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania in 2006. He undertook a law conversion degree at BPP University (London) in 2022, and was awarded a Distinction in a Postgraduate Diploma in Law in 2023. He successfully completed the Bar Training Course (BTC) at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Bar Practice on in 2024 conferred by King’s College London. ‍ ‍‍ ‍
