Sir Hamid was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1976 and conferred the dignity of Knighthood for services to the legal profession in 1986.

Salim Moollan KC has been in private practice as a Barrister at the Chambers of Sir Hamid Moollan KC, Mauritius, and at Essex Court Chambers, London and then Brick Court Chambers, London, since 1998. Jennifer has a broad civil practice with a particular emphasis on commercial litigation and arbitration. She has appeared before all courts of Mauritius including the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council where she appeared in the cases of Toumany v Veerasamy [2012] UKPC 13 and CIEL Ltd v Central Water Authority [2022] UKPC 2. Asif joined the Chambers of Sir Hamid Moollan KC since September 2011. His practice involves criminal, civil, family, employment and commercial matters. He has successfully conducted a number of complex personal injury and road accident cases at different levels, be it enquiry stage or in court and appeared in high profile cases as part of a legal team.
He acts as legal adviser of a small hotel group as well as one of the largest carton manufacturing business in Mauritius. He is also regularly solicited for his advice with one of the largest Insurance Companies in Mauritius.

Asif completed his LLB (Hons) at the University of Birmingham, UK, graduating in 2009. He then undertook the Bar Vocational Course at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, obtaining his Postgraduate Diploma in 2010.

Hisham has appeared before the various courts and tribunals in Mauritius in criminal, civil, family, employment, and commercial matters. He has also assisted the prosecution for various criminal cases at District Court level and has been conducting the cases on behalf of the prosecution. Hisham has appeared as leading counsel in several high-profile criminal cases before the Assizes.
Hisham teaches Commercial Law and Company Law at undergraduate level since September 2010 and is an MQA approved trainer in Employment Law.
Hisham had been chosen as the chairperson of the Young Bar Committee in 2016 a sub committee of the Bar Council.

Ali Adamjee is a barrister specialising in international arbitration, commercial disputes, and public law.

• ArcelorMittal v. Essar Steel (Supreme Court): acted for ArcelorMittal in securing the recognition and enforcement of the largest international arbitral award in Mauritius (USD 1.5 billion) under the New York Convention and in a series of related court applications to prevent the dissipation of assets by Essar Steel. Conducted advocacy and led by Anwar Moollan SC, instructed by Jenner & Block LLP and Mischon de Reya LLP.
• Emtel v. Mauritius Telecom & ors [2024] UKPC 9 (Privy Council): acting for Emtel (the world’s first mobile telephone operator in the Southern hemisphere) in one longest running cases in Mauritius and one of the largest claims for damages for unfair competition and failed telecommunications regulations in Mauritius. Successfully represented Emtel in its appeal before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. Led by Mark Brealey KC and Anwar Moollan SC, instructed by ENSafrica.
• Dayal v. Jugnauth [2023] UKPC 37 (Privy Council): acted for the Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC) in the appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court rejecting the electoral petition seeking to invalidate the election of the then sitting Prime Minister of Mauritius on the grounds of electoral bribery and treating. The Privy Council upheld the judgment of the Supreme Court.
• ENL v. Independent Commission Against Corruption [2023] SCJ 190: acting for New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (the largest hotel group in Mauritius) before the Full Bench of the Supreme Court of Mauritius in this landmark case on the representation of legal companies and the jurisdiction of the Commercial Court. Led by Anwar Moollan SC, instructed by ENSafrica.
• SCF Holdings II v. Manhattan Coffee Investments Ltd (Supreme Court): acted for SCF Holdings II and secured the recognition and enforcement of an LCIA Award (MUR 1.5 billion) under the New York Convention. Currently advising SCF Holdings II in insolvency proceedings arising out of the enforcement and award-debt recovery measures. Instructed by Herbert Smith Freehills LLP.
• Barak Fund v. Quantum Power Namibia & Innovent (Supreme Court): acted for Quantum Power and Innovent to successfully resist a freezing injunction. The first case to consider the Chabra jurisdiction in Mauritius. Instructed by Mishcon de Reya LLP.
• Shallan Overseas Investments v. Fuel Transport Holdings (Supreme Court): acting for Shallan in an application to set aside permission to serve out of jurisdiction. The first Mauritian case to consider the proper interpretation of the gateways to serve out of jurisdiction (based on Order 11 of the old English RSC) and the duty to make full and frank disclosure when seeking permission to serve out on a without notice basis. Currently on appeal. Conducted advocacy in the Court of Appeal (led by Anwar Moollan SC, instructed by Milbank LLP).
• Inside Capital Partners v. Sadar (Supreme Court): lead counsel resisting an application for a freezing injunction and asset disclosure orders in support of enforcement proceedings under the Mauritius International Arbitration Act. Acted as lead counsel in the underlying PCA administered arbitration.
• Pueblo Holdings v. Emirates Trading (Supreme Court): assisted Anwar Moollan SC with garnishee proceedings arising out the enforcement of an international arbitral award in Mauritius.
• Alliance Building v. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Louis (Supreme Court): acted for Alliance in arguing the first case to recognise the negative effect of compétence-compétence in domestic arbitration law: at arbitrator appointment stage the Court will only conduct a prima facie review of the arbitration agreement. Conducted advocacy.
• The MV Tampen (Supreme Court): acted as lead counsel to lift an attachment order (saisie conservatoire) made against a ship docked in the Port-Louis harbour.

After being called to the Bar of England and Wales, Anya began her career with a law firm in London where she received a solid grounding in corporate law and transactional matters, focussing on project finance, specifically aviation finance. Since Anya joined Chambers, she has appeared before all courts and tribunals in Mauritius and in matters before arbitration, whilst carrying out general commercial work for the benefit of companies.
EDUCATION
Anya read law at the University of Kent and thereafter completed the LLM in Bar Professional Training Course at City, University of London with a grade of ‘Very Competent’.
She was called to the Bar of England and Wales at The Honourable Society of The Middle Temple in July 2019 and admitted to the Mauritian Bar in January 2021.

Raza Currimjee, Call 2019

Raza joined Chambers following his call to the Mauritian Bar in January 2021. He is developing a practice in commercial law, public and administrative law, employment matters, civil law as well as regulatory matters in the fields of telecommunications and broadcasting. He has a keen interest in election law having been part of the legal team of the Electoral Supervisory Commission since his call.
Raza has appeared before tribunals such as the Redundancy Board and the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal, as well as before the Supreme Court of Mauritius. He is currently acting as junior counsel in arbitral proceedings brought under the International Arbitration Act 2008.
EDUCATION
Raza obtained his Bachelor of Arts at Williams College, Massachusetts, majoring in both Biology and Economics. He embarked on an accelerated LLB at Queen Mary University, London, graduating with a first-class degree. He then completed his Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at BPP, London. He was called to Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in 2019. Raza undertook pupillage at Chambers under the supervision of Anwar Moollan SC and at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Shoaib Khan-Sahodeea, Call 2024
Shoaib regularly appears before the courts of Mauritius in a broad range of practice areas including Licensing and Regulatory challenges, Banking and Financial Services, Financial Crimes, Building Permissions, Planning Policy, Commercial law and general Public and Civil law.
He holds over 5 years of pre-qualification experience at the Chambers, having been trained by senior members of the Chambers in various aspects of litigation and advocacy.
Prior to being called to the Bar of Mauritius, Shoaib worked in law firms in the UK specialising in Planning Law, Construction & Engineering, and Financial Services.

Rishi practises in commercial litigation, company law, financial and regulatory disputes, tax matters, shareholder litigation and public law, drawing on his extensive financial background and detailed understanding of corporate transactions, financial institutions, valuation, governance, accounting and complex investment structures.
Prior to entering legal practice, Rishi spent almost two decades as an M&A Investment Banker across London, New York, Sydney and Mauritius. He held several senior positions within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at BofA Merrill Lynch and Barclays Capital, where he ultimately served as Director in their London office. He formed part of the team advising the UKFI set up by the UK Government to manage HM Treasury’s holdings in the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Banking Group and Northern Rock, and also advised the Dutch Ministry of Finance to manage the process of nationalising and subsequent privatisation of ABN Amro, SNS Reaal and ASR. He also served as the Head of Financial Modelling and Valuation at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA).
Notable transactions on which he advised include the demutualisation and IPO of Standard Life (European IPO of 2006 Award, IFR), the IPO of Admiral insurance (European IPO of 2004, IFR), the sale of ABSA to Barclays, the merger of F&C and ISIS asset management, Rabobank’s sale of Robeco to ORIX, Aviva’s sell-down in Delta Lloyd, CBA’s sale of St Andrews Insurance to Bank of Queensland and its acquisition of Vietnam International Bank (VIB). In Mauritius, he was the sole advisor to CIM Group on its acquisition of Mauritian Eagle Leasing Company Ltd (MELCO) from the IBL Group and co-advised CIM on the spin-off and listing of Lavastone on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius.
Alongside his practice, Rishi remains active in educational and public-interest initiatives relating to children’s rights, ethics and civic engagement. He is the founder and Chairman of Dukesbridge, the largest group of English-medium international schools in Mauritius.
EDUCATION
Rishi was a State of Mauritius Laureate. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Economics from the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) in 2003 and an Executive Management programme from the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania in 2006. He undertook a law conversion degree at BPP University (London) in 2022, and was awarded a Distinction in a Postgraduate Diploma in Law in 2023. He successfully completed the Bar Training Course (BTC) at the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA) and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Bar Practice on in 2024 conferred by King’s College London.
